THE RACE TO RECYCLE: Coming to a Neighborhood Near You!
The race is on to get fit this fall! This is the season to sign up as a participant or volunteer at one of many marathons or fun runs taking place across the nation. And now you can support a local charity at the same time. From Orlando to Los Angeles (and several cities in between), here’s where to give your best on the course while giving back to a worthy cause:
1. Walk Like MADD
The Race to Recycle kicks off with Walk Like MADD in Dallas and Tucson, both taking place this Saturday, September 20. Look for the Shoe Memorial at the Dallas event, honoring last year’s lives lost and sponsored by ATRS. Make your plans now to join us for Nashville’s Walk Like MADD in October. Registration fees support MADD’s mission to end impaired driving, and onsite Clothing & Shoe collection drives at all three events to directly benefit each local MADD chapter.
The Shoe Memorial at the Dallas Walk Like MADD honors the lives lost this year to impaired driving. Every pair of shoes tells a story!
2. Women’s Running Series
Next on the roster is the Women’s Running Series in Nashville, hosted by our partners at Competitor Group. Come visit our booth at the Expo on Friday, October 26 to pick up swag and donate your unwanted clothing, shoes and running goods. Drop your warm-up gear on the course Saturday and we’ll pick it up for recycling. This is a great opportunity to keep your community green while staying in shape. Plus, there’s a Mimosa Bar at the finish line: ‘nuff said.
3. MHS Mega March
Ever wished there was a dog-friendly marathon? Next month our partners at the Michigan Humane Society roll out their annual Mega March! Walkers can register with (or without) their pets for October 5 or 12. Last year it was pretty chilly, so be sure to bundle up yourself and your pooch in something you can donate once the march heats up. ATRS will be on-site collecting unwanted Clothing & Shoes, and every donation will directly benefit MHS.
4. SGK Race for the Cure
Join ATRS to raise awareness for breast cancer on October 12 at the Susan G. Komen Central Florida Race for the Cure. Our team will be trailing the pack as we pick up all discarded warm-up gear from the track for recycling. Unwanted Clothing & Shoe donations will also be accepted at the start line. It’s the perfect excuse to wear a pink tutu for a great cause!
Look for the ATRS Recycling cart at the start line to make a clothing, shoe or household textile donation before the fun begins.
5. Rock ‘n Roll Marathon Series
ATRS participates in each Rock ‘n Roll Marathon (also through Competitor Group) that takes place in the neighborhoods where we live, work and play. October offers two chances to #RockRunRecycle! Join us on the course in Denver on October 19 and show your support in Los Angeles the following Sunday for RnR’s special Halloween marathon. Don’t forget to drop your warm-up gear on the track, and donate your costumes after the race into an ATRS Recycling bin!
If we aren’t participating in a marathon or fun run in your city this fall, chances are we will race through at another time of the year. Want to request Clothing & Shoe Recycling at an event in your community? Contact your local ATRS office. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter for updates on upcoming events as they’re added.
