Eastside Community Connection and ATRS Austin Connect
The old proverb states, “You give a man a fish and feed them for a day, but teach a man to fish, and feed them for a lifetime. ”It is then fair to say that Eastside Community Connection, or ECC, (www.austinecc.org) teaches many “to fish”! The ECC enlists the help of college students, to design and educate their adult clients. The clients are taught life skills they must have in order to better their lives, and the lives of their families. A few examples of the classes offered are: Computer/English Literacy, GED Preparation, and Financial Planning. The ECC attributes their success to the great lengths they go to prepare these college students to be of service. Internships, hands-on training, group discussions, and speakers, are part of the intensive training and part-time work they are given.
The great University of Texas students and ECC aren’t done there! In addition to creating great future leaders for the community, and teaching people to thrive, Eastside Community Connection recognizes that there are many in need of food. ECC also stocks and operates a food pantry that currently serves over one hundred families each week, and provides food to anyone who walks through their doors! I’m sorry to say there is no federal or state funding, for this much needed and treasured organization. The food pantry is stocked, food is packed, and new clients are interviewed by selfless volunteers, and classes are instructed by trained interns, as discussed earlier.
If you love what you’re hearing (like we did), and want to help, all you have to do is clean out your closet and recycle the items with American Textile Recycling Services Austin (ATRS AUSTIN); we serve as a community liaison! American Textile Recycling Service (ATRS) offers convenient, earth-friendly solutions for textile collection and recycling that keeps hundreds of thousands of pounds out of landfills each year. ATRS helps corporations, city governments, school districts and other community organizations make recycling a more integral part of their operations. ATRS works directly with local, registered 501c3 Non-Profit Organizations as part of its ongoing commitment to community recycling partnerships. The clothing and shoes you donate, are given to the needy, and a portion of them are sold so that financial support can then be offered to ECC to help fund the food pantry, the education programs, and ECC operations.
American Textile Recycling Service (ATRS) is one of the fastest growing textile recycling companies in the USA. ATRS was founded with a profitable, global conscious mission to help communities reuse, renew and recycle clothing, shoes, toys and household goods.
