New Year’s resolutions can be life changing, one small step at a time. But the pressure to maintain these promises can be daunting and stressful once the novelty wears off. We’ve got one simple trick to making long-lasting improvements: Don’t do anything drastic! Manageable lifestyle tweaks easily transition from new goals to daily routines. They can have a big eco-impact, too. Here are four ideas to jumpstart a cleaner, greener you for 2016:

Green Your Eating

This doesn’t exactly mean to eat more greens, even though trying out #Veganuary or #MeatlessMonday wouldn’t hurt! For a less drastic change, simply clean out your fridge and cabinets to make room for fresh, organic ingredients. Start a weekly or monthly trip to your local farmer’s market or buy locally or organically grown products from your neighborhood grocery store. You can even try out a weekend vegetarian diet! Lowering meat consumption can greatly reduce your carbon footprint. Remember, a greener you starts in the kitchen.

Green Your Transportation

There are many ways to go about reducing gas emissions. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle this year, consider a hybrid or an electric car. There are many simple alternatives to gas-guzzlers. Biking or walking to nearby destinations not only lessens your carbon footprint, it also keeps you active. For city-dwellers, public transportation like a subway, Metro bus or even carpooling can easily green your daily commute and save you a few bucks, too!

Green Your Dwelling

Changing your home environment is often the best reminder of your green resolutions. Be crafty by sourcing all-natural décor found in your own neighborhood. Set up a second trash can for recyclables, such as aluminum cans, plastic bottles, egg cartons and paper. Even something as simple as changing your lightbulbs to LEDs or compact fluorescents can make all the difference. After all, it really does only take one person to change a lightbulb!

Green Your Closet

Add textile recycling into your greener resolutions by cleaning out your closets year round. Create some space for new fashion trends as you donate your gently used, out of season, wearable clothing, shoes and household textiles into your nearest ATRS Clothing & Shoe Recycler!

These small steps can quickly transform into an even greater end resolution and an overall greener lifestyle. All you have to do is take the first step!
