OUR TEAM: Houston Rodeo Brings All the Recyclers to the Yard
At ATRS, our people are our greatest assets. If you’ve attended one of our events, you may have met our friendly Community Recycling Advocates. Or caught a glimpse of our fleet-footed Sponsored Runners at a marathon. Or even taken a silly selfie with our green Recycling Fairy. But the team members you don’t see are behind the scenes, sorting and grading textile donations in our Houston facility.
These highly skilled employees help us reuse, redistribute and recycle over 35 million pounds of unwanted clothes, shoes, toys and household textiles each year. So how do we celebrate such expertise and dedication? With tickets to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, of course!

The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is the world’s largest live entertainment and livestock exhibition. The month-long annual festival features events, activities and concerts for the whole family. Our winners received tickets to Go Tejano Day as a reward for their achievements in 2014. Five sets of tickets were raffled off last week, and the lucky winners received either 2 or 4 tickets to enjoy with friends and family.
The Go Tejano Day raffle winners strike a pose!
A sixth set of tickets was awarded based on merit, to the top production worker from the past month. The winner, Maritsa, was the most efficient sorter in her category. As a big “thank you” from Production Manager Albert Larriu, she received four tickets to share with friends and family for Go Tejano Day.
“I am honored to award excellence among my staff,” said Albert. “They put in a tremendous effort and knowledge each day into sorting all the textiles we receive, and it’s great to recognize that.”
Needless to say, everyone had a blast at Go Tejano Day, which celebrates Houston’s rich Hispanic heritage and featured two talented bands plus a mariachi contest.
ATRS is recognized as a leader in the textile recycling industry and our post-consumer product mixes are considered the best in the business. We supply a wide range of local, national and international distributors within many different industries that use materials made from these graded, sorted textiles. It takes knowledge, skill and a keen eye to be part of our Production team, and expertly sort the various categories that come through our doors. Our employees are a critical force that drives our company’s success, green impact and philanthropic mission. ATRS is proud to recognize these six winners and showcase their contribution.
