The Race to Recycle is on this month and we couldn’t be more excited to sprint our way through the fall season! There are so many opportunities to stay fit while keeping our communities clean and green. So get ready to rock, run, walk and recycle your way to the finish line at these family friendly events:

Fall Calendar of Races

1. Support a Local Charity in Your City

Whether you are passionate about pets, want to eliminate drunk driving, seeking a cure for breast cancer or support health and fitness at the YMCA, we have a fundraiser for you! Our Race to Recycle calendar kicks off this weekend with a host of fun events:

The Michigan Humane Society Mega March for Animals¬†kicks off this weekend where you can spend time with your favorite pooch. Then join us for four ATRS-sponsored Walk Like MADD events in Dallas (don’t miss our annual Shoe Memorial), Tucson, Nashville and Fort Worth. October brings the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to our Central Florida community. Last but not least our Houston neighbors won’t want to miss the annual Katy YMCA Turkey Dash on Thanksgiving morning!

Each of these fundraisers are fun-filled, active family events and provide opportunities to recycle clothing, shoes & household textiles onsite. Every pound collected benefits your favorite charity.

2. Get Down & Dirty at a Mud Run

Collecting unwanted running gear at the Terrain Racing Phoenix Mud Run.

The Terrain Mud Runs in Tucson & Phoenix just got more awesome, as they now feature onsite recycling for that muddy running gear! Join us and conquer YOUR terrain while combating the issue of growing landfills in Arizona. We’ll even have a hose ready to spray down your donations if you’re dropping off running gear worn on the course.

Pro Tip: Before you drop off clothing & shoes at one of our neighborhood recycling bins, be sure your donations are clean and mud-free so they don’t contaminate the bin contents!

3. #RockRunRecycle at Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathons

Team & Truck silly¬†ATRS volunteers at Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles 2014.

ATRS is the official recycling partner at seven Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathons throughout the year, and the season kicks off now! Get ready to #RockRunRecycle with us during consecutive races in Denver & Los Angeles this October. ATRS volunteers will be at the start line of each race and collecting dropped warmup gear on the course. Simply toss your shirts, jackets, sweaters and more on the corrals or off to the side of the course and we’ll make sure they are given a second life.

If you won’t be shedding warmup gear on the course at these races, you still have an opportunity to recycle with us at the Health & Fitness Expo. Simply bring a bag of unwanted clothing, shoes & running gear to the Expo and drop it off at our booth. You’ll get some cool green swag from our Recycling Fairies and support a local charity in the process – it’s a WIN WIN WIN!

We hope to see you at one of our races this fall. If your community isn’t on this list, then post a comment here and tell us about your recycling opportunity! Be sure to like the ATRS Facebook page for updates on upcoming events and visit our contact page to find a year-round bin near you!
